History

Welcome to the Old South Dakota Governor’s Mansion. Built in 1936 by the W.P.A., Governor Tom Berry’s vision was to showcase South Dakota products, talent, and labor.

The Mansion was the official residence for over 60 years and served 16 Governors and their families.

We invite you to come visit the Mansion in its new home and experience a piece of South Dakota History.

Newly renovated and filled with historical memorabilia – Western hospitality at its best.

The Big Move:

Cut into four pieces, it took almost 5 months to move the Mansion from Pierre to Rapid City.

Load limits, bridges, and power lines were just a few of the obstacles to overcome.

Each piece traveled over 500 miles – an engineering feat!!

Our thanks to Ted Pettyjohn – House Mover
